What is it really like to sail on a newly amplified Quantum-class ship to Alaska? We take you on a complete, deck-by-deck, full ship tour of Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas

Welcome back to the vlog! Eric, Beth, and Devin are bringing you the ultimate comprehensive guide to Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas.

After spending a full week exploring the ship during our northbound Alaska voyage, we walked every deck, sampled the food, tested out the venues, and sat down to give you our complete, unfiltered review. If you are debating a Quantum-class cruise to Alaska, here is everything you need to know!

1. Deck-by-Deck Ship Tour: Highlights & Venues

The Ovation of the Seas is a massive floating resort packed with incredible spaces. During our tour, we hit all the major hotspots:

  • The Royal Esplanade: The social core of the ship, featuring duty-free shopping, Cafe Promenade, and Sorrento’s Pizza. We also loved the interactive digital art walls that react when you touch them!

  • The Pesky Parrot: One of the best additions from the ship's recent amplification. This dark, immersive tiki bar has incredible atmosphere and fantastic specialty drinks.

  • Two70: Located at the back of the ship, this multi-use tech-forward venue transforms from a sunlit daytime lounge with panoramic views into a high-tech evening show space.

  • The SeaPlex & Top Deck: Home to bumper cars, roller skating, pickleball, the iFly skydiving simulator, the FlowRider, and the iconic North Star glass observation capsule lifting guests high above the ocean.

  • The Solarium: An enclosed, adults-only forward oasis featuring cascading pools and stunning views, perfect for escaping the chillier Alaska weather.

2. Junior Suite Stateroom Tour (Room 10210)

For this sailing, we called Stateroom 10210 home—a Port-side Junior Suite on Deck 10.

  • The Layout & Bathrooms: Unlike standard rooms, having a half-bath and a full-size tub/shower combo made getting ready infinitely easier for three adults.

  • Storage & Amenities: We had massive closet space, deep vanity drawers, and plenty of room for our bulky Alaska layers. Plus, staying in a suite meant we got twice-daily room service turndowns!

  • The Balcony: Our oversized private balcony was a guest favorite. We spent hours sitting out here watching the stunning Pacific Northwest coastline—and even spotted whales right from our chair!

3. Honest Review & Final Thoughts: What You Need to Know

When you book a cruise to Alaska, the experience is quite different from a warm-weather Caribbean sailing. At the end of our voyage, we sat down to share our unfiltered thoughts:

💡 PRO TIP: Plan Excursions Early Alaska port excursions are significantly more expensive than Caribbean stops, and popular tours book out months in advance. Do not plan on just "winging it" at the pier!

  • The Crowd Factor: Because this was a sold-out Alaska sailing, common areas like the Esplanade, the elevator banks, and the Windjammer buffet could get intensely crowded—especially on sea days when everyone is indoors due to the cooler weather.

  • Specialty Dining vs. Main Dining: While we loved our stateroom, our experience with specialty dining had a few bumps (including a scheduling snafu at Chops Grille due to large family groups lingering). If you purchase the unlimited dining package for a 7-day cruise, pace yourself—the sheer volume of food can easily turn into a multi-day food challenge!

  • The Verdict: Would we do it again? Absolutely! While Quantum-class ships are huge and busy in Alaska, the stunning natural scenery, the incredible wildlife sightings, and the sheer comfort of our Junior Suite made it an unforgettable adventure.
